The institute has been set up with well-equipped modern labs and class-rooms.
The Institute has set up Centres of Excellence in Flow Cytometry and in in silico technologies. The Centre of Excellence in flow cytometry is the first of its kind in Gujarat as well as the first in any private organization in India. The centre houses the latest machine of BD Biosciences BD FACSCalibur equipped with cell analysis and sorting facility. This facility will allow the MSc students along with the research scientist access to state of the art equipment for their sample analysis and sorting. The Centre of Excellence in in silico technologies creates an opportunity for the MSc students to undertake research in advanced softwares for computer aided drug designing, molecular modeling, docking and other bioinformatics tools. A Centre for Nanotechnology Research and Applications (CENTRA) has also been established to develop novel nanomaterials for therapeutics and nanomaterial based-products and devices for early disease detection.
The Integrated MSc & MSc programme is focused on multi-disciplinary research based teaching with emphasis on individual projects and experiments in state of the art MSc and PhD laboratories. Each student has hands on training on current techniques in life sciences such as PCR, flow cytometry (analysis & sorting), DNA, RNA and protein expression, purification and separation, nucleic acid and protein blotting, animal and plant cell culture and ELISA. Apart from this, emphasis is also given on in silico biology including molecular modeling , docking and other bioinformatics tools.
The novel course design has been embedded with topics such as product design and innovation OMIC technologies (genomics, proteomics and metabolomics) sensors and chips as well as ethical, legal and social issues to make the students ready for industry as well as academia. Some of which are being taught in the country for the first time. This will empower them with the latest technologies and enable them to pursue high quality fundamental research with creativity and innovation.
