About Manipur state power company limited
Opening For Switch Board Assistant Jobs in Manipur state power company limited
Manipur occupies an area of great strategic importance in the North Eastern corner of India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. It has a total area of 22,347 Sq.Km. with nine districts and an aggregate population of about 27 lakh. Manipur is bordered by the states of Nagaland in the north, Mizoram in the south and Assam in the west. It also borders Myanmar in the east as well as in the south.

Electricity was introduced in the state of Manipur in 1930 with the commissioning of two micro hydel power stations having capacities of 100 KW and 56 KW. The capacity remained the same till the end of first Five Year Plan. An 11 KV transmission line was commissioned between Imphal and Leimakhong to evacuate power from these power stations. The state had only 26 km of 11 KV lines and 45 km of domestic lines to serve the limited number of consumers.

The above assets (both power station and transmission lines) were owned by Manipur State Hydro Electri Board. Later the administrative control over electricity was transferred to Public Works Department, Government of Manipur. Subsequently, it was separated from Public Works Department and started functioning independently since February, 1970.

The peak load demand of Manipur was only 3.6 MW in 1971. This demand was met from the States own generating stations and power purchased from the neighbouring States/Electricity Boards at low voltage. The demand was low till the year 1980. The scenario changed after the state started bulk power purchase from Assam. This was facilitated with the commissioning of 132 KV inter-state transmission line from Imphal to Dimapur, 132/33 KV sub-station at Yurembam in December 1981. Further, the situation was alleviated with the commissioning of NHPCs Loktak Hydro Electric Project in 1984 having a capacity of 105 MW (3x35).

Post Corporatization, MSPDCL is a 100% subsidiary of MSPCL and undertakes power distribution activity within the state of Manipur. MSPDCL houses the entire network in the state at a voltage level of 11 kV and below. All the existing generation assets of about 45 MW which are primarily functioning as back-up generation facilities is transferred to MSPDCL. These generating assets is included as other business for MSPDCL.MSPDCL also carries out the trading activity.

The total installed capacity of the State owned generating stations is 45.11 MW as per the MSPDCLs tariff order for 2012-13, of which 8.51 MW is based on Diesel, 36 MW is based on heavy fuel and rest are Hydel Generation based power plants. MSPDCL serves about 2.29 lakh consumers.
