NIRD is located on a sprawling 42 hectare campus 17 kms from the city of Hyderabad. It is a world class center for rural development training and research. NIRD has every facility in-house for trainees and participants from India and abroad.

Besides, well equipped classrooms, guest houses, a medical center, yoga and indoor and outdoor games(Tennis, Shuttle badminton, Volley Ball) take care of health and recreational needs of participants on the campus. Also there is a gymnasium facility for various types of exercises.

Information dissemination of the research and training output is undertaken through a quarterly Journal of Rural Development, Research Highlights and Recommendations of Seminars, and Workshops and research reports, monographs, occasional papers etc. Over 200 titles are published so far .

To examine and analyse the factors contributing to the improvement of economic and social well-being of people in rural areas on a sustainable basis with focus on the rural poor and the other disadvantaged groups through research, action research and consultancy efforts.To facilitate the rural development efforts with particular emphasis and focus on the rural poor by improving the knowledge,skills and attitudes of rural development officials and non-officials through organising training, workshops and seminars
