National Institute of Technology (NIT) Uttarakhand is one among the ten newly sanctioned NITs in 2009 by Government of India under the 11th five year plan. The Institute is fully funded by Government of India under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Presently, NIT Uttarakhand is carrying out its activities from its temporary campus at Government Polytechnic, Srinagar Garhwal, Uttarakhand. A new temporary campus is also functional at old ITI Campus near Government Polytechnic. Presently the Institute is running full time B. Tech. Program in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering with intake of 60 students in each branch.

Temporary Campus is located in Govt. Polytechnic, Srinagar Garhwal (Distt. Pauri Garhwal). Srinagar Garhwal is 105 km from Rishikes on National Highway No. 58 leading to Badrinath (193 km from Srinagar). Rishikes is the nearest Railway Station. Haridwar, a major Railway Station in Uttarakhand is 130 km from Srinagar. Nearest Airport at Jolly Grant, Dehradun is 125 km away from Srinagar. Taxis are available for Srinagar from Airport. Buses and Taxis are available for Srinagar from Rishikesh/Haridwar. It takes 4 to 5 hours to reach Sringar from Rishikesh. Srinagar is on the banks of Alaknanda River. River Ganga Gets the name as Ganga after Alaknanda and Bhagirathi meet at Devprayag which is 35 km from Srinagar. Srinagar is a main town in Garhwal. It is the Educational Hub of Garhwal with Central University, Medical College being the most Important Institute established in Srinagar. Sashastra Seem Bal (SSB) has established its Academy in Srinagar.

The library has open access system along with a reading room facility. The Library houses a total collection of approx. 32,000 printed books (with more than 6000 titles) which includes Text books and Reference books in the field of Engineering and Technology, Sciences and Humanities, English Literature and Fiction. The library has a rich collection of E-books (i.e. 26,457 titles) procured from various renowned publishers and the library subscribes various online databases to increase and enhance the quality of academic and research work. The library subscribes 69 magazines for the students as magazines plays an important role in an educational institution or organization and supply the variety of news on a regular basis (i.e. weekly, monthly etc.) and keep the users updated about the latest news and happenings taking place in our country as well as in the world at large. The librarys has Online Public Access Catalogue to search all the bibliographic records available in the library through a web based search i.e. WebOPAC.
