The Seva Bharati KVK is situated at Kapgari village of Jamboni Block at Jhargram sub- division bordering Jharkhand and Orissa State, falling under the red and lateritic zone of the district. The area is predominantly inhibited by Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes and other Backward Communities and is characterised by its unbountiful nature. The soil is lateritic with undulating topography. The average rainfall is 1200 mm., 90% of which is received from June to September in the rainy season. Late on-set, period of long dry spells during rainy season, early cessation of rain are some of the common weather aberrations, which result in low productivity and frequent crop failure. Low soil fertility, subsistence rice cropping system on a fragile eco-system in the rain-fed areas have added further crippled situation with no basic necessities of the life of poor farming communities. Rice is the principal crop in the medium up-land to lowland followed by pulses, oilseeds and vegetables. Rainfall is very erratic in nature. Low water retention capacity of the soil aggravates the situation further. The temperature during the winter falls to 16˚C to 17˚C and raised upto 40˚C to 42˚C in the summer.

In fact, the entire area is rain-fed agriculture, drought-prone with undulant topography and is one of the most backward areas of West Bengal. The major upland are mostly wasteland which to be turned into a greener patches by agro-forestry, horti-forestry, social-forestry with quick growing plans.In order to achieve this goal, four mandates have been envisaged in the design of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra
